This application required the MLP to be used to detect a full hopper of high temperature waste product. It is normally not possible to mount the MLP into a hopper with high temperatures so it was necessary to mount the MLP in a remote and cool area. As the walls of the hopper were insulated in this application, the positionindicatedbelowwas reasonable.

To be sure the temperature would not be transferred to the MLP, a silicon or Teflon drive sleeve was used. This also took care of any alignment problems. Where the main driven shaft entered the hopper, a 400 C rated Teflon sleeve was used as a bearing surface and fitted into the outer wall of the hopper where it was cooler. The shaft was then fitted withasuitable disc whichwould become stalled whencovered withproduct. Unfortunately thelifeof the Teflonbushis unknownat this time.
